1. Personal Data

Evangelos-Nikolaos D. Madias was born in Athens in 1986. He graduated from the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, in 2010. His Diploma dissertation concerned the application of energy efficient lighting in retail and commercial lighting installations.

He holds an MSc Diploma in Mathematical Modelling in Modern Technologies & the Economy from the School of Applied Mathematical & Physical Sciences of the National Technical University of Athens, in 2012. His MSc thesis regarded the study of energy market liberalization in southern European countries.

He is a PhD candidate at School of Electrical & Computer Engineering, National Technical University of Athens. The field of his PhD research is the development of an artificial lighting control system with light sensors placed on work plane level.

He is fluent in English, German and Russian.

2. Current Position

Researcher & Test Engineer, Lighting Laboratory, National Technical University of Athens (From September 2013- to present)

Freelancer Electrical & Computer Engineer (From 2010-to present)

3. Scientific & Work experience

Since 2013 he is a Researcher and Test Engineer at Lighting Laboratory (NTUA). He has extensive experience in photometric, electric, spectral measurements of luminaires and lamps as well as quality assurance testing of interior and exterior lighting installations. He is the author of 21 publications (5 in international scientific journals, 12 in international conferences, 2 in national conferences and 2 in national press). He has participated in various research projects funded by the private and the public sector. During his compulsory military service, he has served as an Analyst-Developer for the Information Technology Support Center of the Hellenic Army. He has participated in the following projects:

  •   Quality assurance testing of lighting equipment (2014-2020), funded by manufacturers of lighting equipment.
  • Quality assurance testing of interior and exterior lighting installations (2014-2020), funded by manufacturers of lighting equipment.
  • Artificial lighting control system with ambient light sensor network”, funded by the Research Committee of NTUA (2018-2019)
  • Study of technical specifications of LED traffic lights (2016-2017), funded by the Hellenic Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
  • Thales – NTUA: Development of a novel intelligent lighting control system with imaging sensor for optimum daylight exploitation and energy saving”,(code MIS 379524), in Priority Axis “11-Reinforcement of Human Capital for the promotion of the research and innovation in the 3 Phasing out Regions” which is co-funded by the EU-ESF and National Funds through the operational program “Education and Lifelong Learning”(2012-2015)
  • South-East European TSO Challenges (SEETSOC)” (2014), Project number 239453, funded by FP7 ENERGY-2008-TREN-1. 
  • Energy savings in lighting installation of General Maternity Hospital of Elena Venizeloy (2011).
